How many hybrids should you use?
Here’s a question for you, which clubs do you take with you when you’re headed into a ‘3 clubs and a putter’ competition? These tournaments are a lot of fun and a real eye-opener into how creative you can get with your shots when you’re restricted to using specific clubs.
You’ll likely want to take a driver and a wedge with you, but how do you manage that middle ground? Do you go for an iron, a fairway wood, or would you feel safer with a hybrid?
People often come away from these competitions having played surprisingly well, and it can make you wonder whether you need to be carrying a whole range of irons around with you when hybrids are so adaptable.
Irons will give you better accuracy, and fairway woods pack some power, but hybrids bridge the gap between both clubs. So today, we want to get you to consider how you organise your bag, as well as marvel at how amazing the latest golf hybrids are.
The world of golf hybrids
From what we’ve observed at the club in recent years, a lot more players are adding hybrid clubs to their bags. Hybrids have been around for decades, but it seems in modern times they’ve becomes just as popular as long irons, particularly among high handicap players.
It is of course all about personal preference so we want to understand your attitude towards them. Do you enjoy the feel of a hybrid over a long iron? Do you find the heavier head and larger sole makes them easier to strike than long irons?
It’s important to have a good understanding of your gapping and your distances, knowing exactly how far you hit each club so you know which one to pull out of the bag on any given shot.
So how do you accommodate your hybrids into your set? Do you have just the one 4 hybrid and a set of irons, or do you have more hybrids than irons? Perhaps you have 4, 5, 6 hybrids and your irons are more thought of as your scoring clubs?
